Robin Class (EYFS-KS1)
Welcome to Robin Class
Robin Class is a mixed Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 class taught by Mrs Turner and Mrs Denton, our Early Years specialist. We are lucky to be supported by Mrs Buckley and Mr Barnard in the morning and Mrs Northey in the afternoons.
Our classroom is big, bright, and bursting with energy! The children quickly settle into our class family and together we explore, learn new skills and enjoy our time at school. Within our classroom we have a role play area, an investigation station, writing tables, a class library and reading area, a small world area, a construction area as well as our Maths and English areas.
Our outdoor classroom consists of an art and design studio, a stage, a water area, a large construction area and a games area. We are fortunate to have access to the lovely big field next to our classroom which the children are able to access on a daily basis and is particularly good for learning to ride our bikes! We are also able to access the lower playground, and this is where our muddy kitchen and Forest School is located. The children access Forest School every week and this is led by Mrs Denton our Forest School Leader.
Every day, we start with a class wake and shake activity before settling into our daily lessons which start with our daily Phonics session (for further information see our Phonics and Reading pages). The Year 1 and 2 children then follow the National Curriculum and the implementation of our EYFS curriculum ensures that our children can develop as independent, confident and successful learners. We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework that sets the standards for learning, development and care for children from birth to 5.
Community is at the heart of our classroom practice; our children have high aspirations and understand the value of making positive contributions to the world around them. Our goal is to ensure that all our children are happy and engaged.
Through our curriculum, we provide an environment that allows each child to display high levels of concentration, creativity, energy and persistence. The rationale behind this is that high levels of well-being and involvement foster positive development for children and facilitate deeper learning.
In Robin Class, PE is on a Monday afternoon and is led by Plymouth Argyle and supported by Mrs Denton and Mrs Northey. This is usually outside although during wet weather will move into the hall and will focus on multi-skills and specific sports such as football, dodgeball, tag rugby, kwik cricket and tennis. On a Friday, our PE is led by Mrs Turner and will consist of gym – using the large indoor apparatus, dance and athletics. Children keep their PE kits in school, and these are returned home at the end of each term.
Please see our topic webs and knowledge organisers, these will explain what the children will be learning, and are updated each term.
Throughout the year, you can keep up to date via our regular posts on Twitter or Facebook.
As always, if you have any questions, please make contact via email on hello@cusgarne.org or telephone our secretaries - Mrs Sleeman and Mrs Hall.
